Storage Virtualization (https://www.esds.co.in/blog/storage-virtualization-solutions-help-to-maximize-the-virtualization/) creates a layer of abstraction on top of Available storage resources for the purpose of pooling storage resources across multiple entities(hosts/other storage devices). Typical examples of Storage virtualization are VMware VSAN with pools local disks across the hosts into a Block storage pools, Microsoft Storage spaces does a similar but it provides object storage.
