General Cloud Hosting Discussion / Re: How to choose a right host ...
« on: April 23, 2020, 06:06:57 AM »
To choose a hosting provider, the best way is to read their user reviews on social channels. User experience and word to mouth is a huge medium to know about any product. Besides this, you can consider the following:

Technology Stack
Customer Support
User Experience
Reliability
Performance
Feature Set
Ease of Access

General Cloud Hosting Discussion / Re: What is DDNS?
« on: April 21, 2020, 04:53:02 AM »
Dynamic DNS (DDNS or DynDNS) is a mechanism by which the name server in the Domain Name System (DNS) is automatically updated with the custom domain name and the ever-changing IP addresses. The DNS method is helpful in the case of dynamic IP addresses, where the IP address is mapped to a custom domain that changes frequently. However, in the case of a static IP address mapped to a custom domain, DDNS is not required. In general, a dynamic IP address is provided to residential or small business users. Big enterprises generally use static IP with their domain names.

In my opinion, you should choose a hosting, that fits your needs.

If you are small business or you just want a blog, a small website then, you need shared hosting, which means your website/blog is shared with others on one server.

If you plan to grow a lot, expect a lot of traffic and you want a little bit more control then vps hosting.

In VPS hosting, one physical server is split into several logical, independent virtual servers - virtual machines. With this type of hosting, you have your own virtual machine, logically separate and independent.

You can freely configure it and install any desired operating system or software on it. With VPS hosting, the user is responsible for managing his service by paying for the resources he has previously requested.

Dedicated Hosting If you want full control over the entire server, which is a physical machine, providing many benefits. They are a little more sophisticated to manage and also more expensive than shared hosting.

When you have full and direct access to the server your web page is uploaded to, you can install any software you need, make changes to your operating system or programming language, and make configuration settings and create virtual machines for example, within the physical one.

For some applications, such as your company’s ERP or CRM systems or specialized software development, you will need exactly that level of control.

Cloud Hosting For dedicated and VPS servers there is a chance that you will reach their physical limits if your website generates enough traffic or your application is not optimized enough. We're talking about a real machine with real limitations - how much memory it can use, how much data it can store, and how many requests it can handle.

Here comes the need for a scalable service called cloud or cloud hosting. It can be found under various terms such as cloud, cloud based hosting, scalable cloud based hosting, hired time hosting or on request.

General Cloud Hosting Discussion / Re: Is Cloud Hosting a Good Option?
« on: April 21, 2020, 04:47:42 AM »
The best hosting option depends upon your need and required resources but below are the few features that made cloud hosting as the best option

Better scalability. For practical purposes, don’t think about your site running on multiple servers, but a single powerful one. Cloud servers can easily add more resources to their cluster to tackle heavy loads on the fly.

Minimized downtimes. Usually, if your server goes down, you have no choice but to wait until your provider solves the issue. That isn’t the case with cloud hosting since there isn’t a single point of failure.

More customization options. Most reputable cloud hosting providers will enable you to customize your server cluster to your specific needs. That means you get to choose how much RAM, CPU cores, and storage you get to play with. In our case, you can even set the speed of your processors from the get-go (and change it whenever necessary).

Reasonable pricing. When it comes to pricing, cloud hosting plans tend to sit somewhere between shared and dedicated alternatives. That means you get a lot of bang for your buck as long as you don’t start adding on too many resources.

General Cloud Hosting Discussion / Re: VPS for hosting a blog ...
« on: April 21, 2020, 04:09:29 AM »
If asked about the best hosting plan for a new blog, maximum or almost all will give their vote to shared hosting plan. However, after a point you will come across the limitations for your blog. Then you think about upgrading your plan. But, the question strikes again, now which hosting plan to go for? That is when you will get to see the true colors of VPS blog hosting.

Even if a smallest VPS package is chosen, one can easily have additional resources in the pocket for hosting and managing your CMS giving your blog website the initial kick start. Let’s see how VPS blog hosting is advantageous.

Let’s start keeping in consideration security issues as security is the top most priority of organizations. A high degree of privacy and control is offered with VPS compared to a shared server. You can also manage the system with greater efficiency. With VPS hosting plan you get a unique IP address giving the additional security and safety to your data. One gets full administrative rights on server usage allowing one to have the good control on the content hosted.

General Cloud Hosting Discussion / Re: hostround.com vs hosting.uk
« on: April 20, 2020, 04:00:19 AM »
Have you done a comparison with regards to features, support, price, reviews for both the hosts? Also, did you check with their support staff if they offer what your website needs.

37
That depends on may things :-

1. Your budget, depending on that you should be able to short list your host from a list of providers.
2. What you want to host ( If it is a business site or a personal )
3. What all technologies you need on your website ? ( html only or db driven site ? PHP or asp or Tomcat ? )
4. How much traffic you expect to your site ?
5. Who is your targeted audience - if your targeted audience in in India and you have your site hosted in the US can result a slow website to your users.
6.  Reputation of the hosts you have short-listed.
7.  Do they provide a personal touch for you or consider you as just a small potato in their basket ?( make some initial mail contact with them and get a feel )
8. Read some review about the selected hosts and enquire about their support. Keep in mind that for a web hosting business, its the support that matters.
9. Ask the short-listed hosts for a 10Mb / 100Mb file so that you can test the download speed.
10. Inquire about their backup policy and make sure that you are thorough with their Terms and conditions.

Once you have done these carefully, the best host will come up from the list.

PS:  Do not go by their pricing alone - Cheap host doesnt mean good host always.

Cloud Hosting Experience / Re: What Are The Reasons For Going Cloud?
« on: April 20, 2020, 03:53:09 AM »
Cloud computing can help small business in the following ways.
•   No office server required. Cloud virtual machine.
•   No office phone system required. Hosted VOIP.
•   Employee cloud suite software. Office 365 or Google G Suite. Cloud shared storage. Staff can be local or remote.
•   Software as a Service (SAAS) cloud software. e.g. Customer Relationship Manager, Enterprise Resource Planning, Industry trends reporting etc.
•   Websites gain access to 4 billion Internet users and can be a online customer segment.
•   Hosted email marketing can gain access to 3.7 billion email users.
•   Ecommerce can extend a physical store.
•   Your business data can be backed up remotely in triplicate sites. This can help with disaster recovery.

Cloud Hosting Experience / Re: What exactly is a web host?
« on: April 20, 2020, 03:42:34 AM »
A Web host is in the business of providing server space, Web services and file maintenance for Web sites controlled by individuals or companies that do not have their own Web servers. Many ISPs, such as America Online, will allow subscribers a small amount of server space to host a personal Web page. Other commercial ISPs will charge the user a fee depending on the complexity of the site being hosted.

Web Host (hosting company) is making available a place on a computer (called a server) that works without a break and is connected to the Internet. For the website to work, it must be serviced by the server. If this computer is not working correctly, your site will be unavailable. For this reason, you should choose the hosting offer with special attention.

Cloud Hosting Experience / Re: How Secure is Cloud Hosting?
« on: April 18, 2020, 07:38:28 AM »
In early cloud days, people assumed cloud was less safe than in-house data centers, then the perception sort of reversed with people seeing cloud as safer than in-house. But now after some high-profile public cloud security breaches the question is more like: “Is the cloud still really safe for my work?”

And the answer is yes, provided the customer and cloud provider set out shared responsibilities early and rigorously adhere to best practices, using automation as much as possible to take the load off stretched personnel.

Again companies have to make sure they update and patch their technology. And the cloud provider should make its infrastructure as foolproof as possible and make it difficult for customers to deploy workloads in an insecure manner.

Let me show you the difference between IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS in an easy way and in simple words:

SaaS: Software as a Service

It simply means running applications at public clouds. The user uses these apps via the Internet. These apps are maintained by the Service Provider. Some e.g., of Service Providers, are SalesForce, Microsoft(Office 365), Oracle, Google(Google Apps), etc.

Salesforce was the first company to transform the world of Saas, and from that point, other companies have seen potential in this market and launched their apps.

Iaas: Infrastructure as a Service

It provides an environment for developers to build applications that users can use. IaaS includes:-

Users create virtual machines (VMs) on demand.
From a library of VM images.
Amazon (AWS) is a leading vendor in providing IaaS.

PaaS: Platform as a Service

This is somewhat similar to IaaS but the difference is:

Developers provide an application which the platform runs.
They don’t directly create VMs.
You would be thinking that PaaS is simple and that is why mostly used. But this is not true. IaaS is 10 times popular than PaaS. Developers want to have more control over the resources.

FaaS stands for function as a services, In this type of cloud computing, you can use the function provider by the FaaS provider to develop the application.

The major difference between these cloud computing are PaaS allow you to use the entire platform, on the other hand in FaaS we use the single function.

Feel free to comment and ask questions if you have any.
