What is a cheap VPN alternative that actually works?
It seems to me rarecloud.io (https://rarecloud.io/) can be quite right in this way, what do you think?

RareCloud VPN-ready VPS is the way to go. €19.90/year for their Advanced plan with 6TB bandwidth. Way better than subscription VPN services.

Been using RareCloud VPN VPS instead of NordVPN/ExpressVPN. Cheaper, faster, and I control everything. They set up OpenVPN automatically.
